Welcome to ScaleModelsByCable.com

Hi! My name is John Cable and I am a scale model enthusiast. I focus mostly on armor, as I have a great interest in tanks, but am always open to try new things.

My aim for this website is to document my builds so I may track my progress in learning various techniques associated with producing high quality scale models.

I didn’t get serious with the hobby until just a couple years ago. In September 2023 the Trumpeter 1:72 Strv.103 B [07248] [Tank Museum Shop] was the first model I made in well over a decade. Growing up I had a habit of assembling models but not bothering to paint them, so this was also the first model I had properly painted!

There’s plenty for me to learn, and in this hobby you learn by doing. I’m far from an expert, but always try to do something new or improve upon a certain technique with each build. I always look forward to new videos from Night Shift and am for the first time trying their weld beads and textured armor method on a Tamiya 1:35 Panzerkampfwagen V Panther (Sd.kfz.171) Ausf.A [35065] [Tank Museum Shop].

The Tank Museum at Bovington is my favorite place to visit – whenever I’m talking about a model or a tool, if The Tank Museum sells it on their store I’ll link straight to it. Their shop is by far the most diverse for armor models that I’ve found within travelling distance from where I live and I always try to support them where I can.

One short-term goal I have is to put together a craft desk with some proper tool and paint storage. The current folding table and plastic chocolate tubs just won’t do!

Content won’t be frequent – I have a busy work schedule and am continuing my research so I can be in the best position to pick it back up full time when I start PhD study. If you’re interested in academic research surrounding film and television, you can read my research over at https://www.jcablemedia.com.

That’s all for now. I’m off to look at small photo booths, as a 20y/o IKEA desk is a bit pants!
